There are, of course, a lot of old school detachable magazine rifles one could have with the right money. Winchester 07 Police guns or Police versions of the Model 8 & 81 would make good home defense rifles. The magazines were made in the 1930's-1940's so they're definitely old enough. Most were in 15 round capacity like the custom Model 81 carbine pictured below. Most were in 35 Remington caliber.

yeah, we're on a shot clock.
My plan is to buy standard cap mags for AR,AK, VZs and buy the rifles later when things calm down. I don't have much interest in AKs, or VZs, but I might as well cover my bases in case my interests change.

Flat out poor governance.....

Remington Model 7400 has A/market 10 rnd mags available. Not what I'd call a battle rifle but is a very capable weapon.

SKS with a Tech Sight, fully-adjustable version. The original leaf sight can be re-installed.

Being an uncool

rifle helps limit demand, and Gunbroker still has seven pages of them and many on the first page (first to close) have zero bids.
Many prices listed by the SKS sellers are still $350-$400, and even some of those receive 0 bids at closing time.

Considering that the typical SKS on GB back in March '08 was listed at about $300, they are now an even better value.
A graphic color photo of a large Texas feral hog's wound, after being dropped by a single shot of 7.62x39 helps suggest the utility of these rifles.

We're up the same issue here in Maryland. The current State Law only allows the purchase or transfer of magazines 20 rounds or less within the state. When the new ban kicks in on October 1st, the new limit will be ten rounds. Since only the SALE or TRANSFER is banned, not possession, everyone just drives across the state lines to PA, VA, or DE and buys what ever they want.

The only real demonstrative effect the law has had is to really pi$$ off and polarize gun owners against the current Democratic administration.
