RUGER P 89 extractor issues
Recently got ahold of a spare slide for a P89. Extractor is bent. Can anyone tell me how to remove faulty extractor? I do have a spare to replace it with.

Sir:
There has to be a pin around which the extractor pivots. Remove with a pin punch being careful not to loose the spring and it will come out. Got to! Hard to believe it's bent but welcome to the Forum. Welcome! Harry B. |

The extractor on the P89 functions via the springiness (is that a word) of the extractor itself. There is no spring under there. Simply take a flat screwdriver and slip it under the extractor claw. Push out slightly and forward and it will slide right out. Reverse the process to reinstall. No springs to go flying.

Thanks guys! Just got done doing this and everything worked just fine. Extractor hooks rounds flawlessly . I got the slide off gunbroker, and it was in great condition, except for the extractor issue. Also ordered a new set of Wolf recoil springs and a Ruger takedown manual. I'm going to take it to shoot this weekend.

No prob guys. The P85 through the P97 use the same extractor setup. It's different on the 345. Haven't got around to stripping the slide on that one yet.
