weapon carry law Ga?

I recently bought my first handgun which I plan to carry. I haven't had time to go apply for my Ga weapons lisence yet. I read on Georgia carry.org and certain people have made comments that its legal to carry without a GWL I want to know if that is true or not.

I'd definitely want to hear it from an authority figure in my jurisdiction. At first blush it seems pretty unlikely that it's legal. Why would they issue licenses if those licenses were not necessary?

it is nt true that you can carry. you are allowed to carry a loaded weapon in your car, WITHOUT permit, as long as it is either; in closed compartment(ie center console, must have lid) or glovebox, or you can have it in plain sight, like on the seat or anywhere. side door panels are excluded and considered concealed, under seat is concealed.....anywhere that it out of sight and doesn't have a closing compartment is illegally concealed.

you can carry the gun concealed from your home to car or vise versa and your car to office and vice versa if your office is on private property

you are not allowed to carry your gun on your person concealed without a license, outside of those exclusions. the permit takes like ten minutes to get and is under 70$, I recommend getting one when you get a chance.

This is absolutely correct. At one point, it was legal to carry openly without a permit, but that is no longer the case. It hasn't been for a while.

For some reason, that mistaken advice is still repeated quite often.

I have looked over GA law like a dozen times and can't find "open carry" being legal in any circumstance, permit or not. I am sure I am just missing something, but they keep it very vague

There was an overhaul of the carry laws in 1983 or so. Prior to that, concealed carry was regulated under a may-issue system while open carry was unregulated.
