I'm a Sucker for a Deal

It happened again today...

I was just going to buy a few boxes of ammunition at the gunshop today, but there was a "used" mossberg 500 18.5" that looked brand new with a tag that said $200. My inner arab jumped out and I was haggling about the price before I even knew what I was doing.

So now I have a new little 12ga and my wallet is $160 lighter.

Now I need to find a nice wood stock for it. And a sling. And I need to replace the 50 rounds of buckshot I put through it this afternoon.

I guess shotgun fever strikes without warning and I'm lucky I only caught a mild case. If it had been severe I would have walked out of the gunshop with that extra-fancy walnut stocked Auto-5 I've had my eye on for a while...

I bet this is a common affliction. Do y'all suffer from Dealus Suckeritis and shotgun fever?

Anyone know where I can find a nice wood stock and a sling for a 500 at minimum cost?

Got a nice wood set in my sock drawer.
Willing to trade for plastic if you want.
I'll get a pic up asap.

Yessir it does. My purchase of my Maverick 88 12Ga was something I didn't expect. I'm a rifle guy, what could I want with a shotgun? But it was used, only $138 and now look at it mod'd with top folding stock, shell holder, heat shield...I also have a rail up top for the my red dot.

Damn shotguns and their sporatic gravitational pull!

You're not alone.

I just bought a 12 ga. 870 wingmaster, 28", Mod., VR. Sticker price was $239. It had some surface rust and the trigger did not spring back into position after pulling it. I pointed out the problems to the manager and offered $150. He agreed and it was $159 with tax. I couldn't resist. A little WD-40 and some scrubbing and it was good-as-new. I've already got three other 12 gauges so I needed this one like a hole in the head but I've got a soft spot for neglected Remingtons and Rugers. I posted in the revolver forum about a .357 that I'm on the fence about now.

I would've bought that mossy in a heartbeat for $200, not to mention $160.

Sure does!!!

I was just in a similar situation, mossy 500 for sale with less than 100 rounds thru it, a 24" slug barrel and a rail for a red dot, after some haggeling i walked away with it plus a new sling for $120 bucks!! trust me i think we all have this affliction.

a day late and a dollar short

You guys must be the ones kicking your heels in the parking lot when I pull up.
Or the ones who have a gun on "hold"
Or better yet:"we just sold one the last one for....."
I have yet to get a good deal at a shop.
The only time I get a great deal is on private sales.

I got bit yesterday. A buddy of mine sold me his Benelli Nova for $250, he paid 3 something for it last year for so we could go hunting. The funny part is he carried it in woods two times and never fired it. I was going to try and talk him down a little more but he has a baby on the way which is way he is getting rid of it.

It's a scope mount for a Mossberg 500 as I recall... picked it up at Wal*Mart.

Mossberg 835 with rifled 'slugster' barrel of 20 in. The wood and metal surfaces were a 'bubbafied' camo. I was looking for a cheap, reliable deer shotgun, $160 at Whittaker's.

BTW, after breakdown and cleaning, I used car wax on the outside of the receiver. She's not pretty, but knows how to cook!

Aloha

Setshun8 Had a good point about the 10 Rund drum.. They say its a great conversion for entry but who needs 10 rounds for one entry job. and as heavy as it makes the gun its not practicle..

I heard that you can remove the plug and the standard mossberg will hold more ammo.. Is that true? If so how many will it hold??

Remington Yukon sling

You could always go with the Remington Yukon rifle sling. I have yet to take it out on a trip with me, but I picked it up for a whole $6 at Wal-Mart. It says it's for rifles, but I've got mine on my Benelli with four 12 gauge shells in it.
