grip material

I am interested in trying my hand at makeing some custom micarta grips for my FA revolver , I did some in Rose wood that started as a rough cut and they were pretty easy . I am having trouble though finding 1/2 x12 x 12 peices of micarta though .Any body know of a source ,
Does anybody know of a source for woods to make grips from ?

Have you tied a stone/tile and Corian countertop installer? I have seen some great Corian grips made from scrap.

Fancy wood for pistol grips can often be bought from gun stock makers, and blank suppliers.
Most of the blank suppliers sell very fancy wood blocks for pistols.

Finding laminated woods is TOUGH.
Most of the suppliers sell knife handle blocks and scales, both of which are too small for most pistol grips.

The companies that actually manufacture the woods, sell only in sheet quantities, and the sheets are usually WAY to big and WAAAAAAYYYY to expensive for hobby work.

One source I've used before is Texas Knifemaker's Supply:

They sell blocks up to 5"x12"x1 1/2" thick.

The laminated woods are sold under a variety of names like, Dymondwood, Pakka wood, wood micarta, Tiger stripe Resin wood, etc.

It's much easier to find fancy woods in the small quantities, and in the sizes you need for pistol grips.

I get wood for grips sometimes from these folks. They sell exotic woods as well as walnut and rose wood. Check them out.
