Winchester 94 Reciever Reblue

Does anyone know the serial range in which Winchester 94 receivers won't accept a blue job?

Debee, actually they started using the cast iron frames on the 94s after serial number 2,700,000. But they will all blue. The cast iron receivers require different methods. You can't normally get them to the shiny factory blue but you can get a very nice matte finish on them. I have seen pretty good results from the use of Oxphynate 84 and by leaving them in the tank for up to two hours in Oxphynate 7. The only way I know of to get the factory finish is to send them to Winchester. George

My information is from Robert C. Renneberg, "The Winchester Model 94", (1991).
1.) 500,000 to 1,200,00 (1909-1942): Recievers have a high nickle content and the bluing often "flakes" off, even when the rifle is in mint condition.
2.) 2,600,000 and above (Post '64): Reciever is an investment casting made from some unknown alloy which does not accept hot bluing by itself. They are plated with iron so that they can be blued.
It sounds like the majority of Model 94's do not hot blue well at all, but I have no practical experience in this area.
