.40S&W loads using cast MB and W231 or Clays

Ok, so here's deal. I am wanting to reload for my .40 M&P and .40 Springfield EMP. I definitely want to use Missouri Bullets because these are going to be plinking rounds. I am up for suggestions as far as what weight to use, however, I have some limitations on what powder to use. I currently have about 6 pounds of Clays from my old 12 gauge reloading days and a pound of W231 at my disposal. Any suggestions are appreciated.

take a look at this thread over on THR - I'm in a similar boat with you although I don't have a large qty of any one powder -

Edited to add: the W231 sounds like something I would like to try -

If looking for one powder that covers just about every pistol load, W231 would be about as close as you can get, but then HP-38 is the same powder at a little less cost. You will need to decide on the bullets you want to use, I prefer the 180-grain in my Glock 22, but I am shooting Berry bullets at cast loads. And I use HP-38 in them.

If you can find some load data for the clays in .40cal, go for it. Quite a few guys at the club use clays for .45cal bullseye shooting.
I'm a shotgun reloader myself and use American Select, Greendot and Universal for my pistol loading. I wish someone would do some load data for Alliant Claydot since I have 12lbs of it...lol.

So I did a little more looking and found this thread over at Brian Enos Forums. A bunch of guys use Clays from what I am reading and I thought I would share.

I use the Missouri 180 gr in my XD.

I have no experience w/Clays, but as I understand it, it's a good versatile powder. For that matter, so is 231. You will probably end up using both for varying applications.

Clays is a great powder for shotguns, 38 special, and 45acp but I had trouble with stovepipes in my XD 40 when using it. The 40sw is a high pressure cartridge and I have had excellent results using Bullseye powder for this caliber.
