Silica in my soup?
A friend of mine just got his RCBS Case Prep Center which came w/ a packet of silica to be used as a dry lube for bullet seating. I don't recall my unit having the silica but that was well over a year ago. Anyway, has anyone ever used the silica for this purpose? What were your experiences and conclusions? I would think even a tiny amount of silica in a .308 load would turn to glass and be pushed down the barrel by the hot gases. Thanks for your comments.

I have never heard of anyone using silica as a lube, because it is an ABRASIVE. I have seen people using fine mica powder as a dry lube, and it works very well.

Thanks, it probably is mica. Using silica sounded idiotic to me too. I'll pass the word along...and the word is mica.

It's put in the box to absorbe moisture during storage and shipping.
Just a thought. |
