In most professions, ordinary citizens need to spend their own money to:
1. take licensing exams 2. attend continuing education classes and/or training 3. pay professional/association dues I see no reason why police officers shouldn't be required to pay whatever they need to for bullets, targets, range time, supplies etc. to meet qualificaton requirements. Why should the government pay for this? How is it that we all have just accepted that "government employees" are entitled to have all of their training, supplies, etc. paid for by someone else.....but folks who don't work for government have to pay for similar things all by themselves? |

Many times when at the local indoor shooting range I shoot next to a LEO officer who is there on his dime using his own ammo. Never gave it much thought.
My cousin, recently retired Omaha LEO told me he never once drew his weapon, he still shoots and is real good at it. With the budgets in the red all over the country, spending more money for shooting isnt high on any list I imagine. |

Unless things have drastically changed an officer is only issued 100 rounds - 50 for practice and 50 for quals/annually. This only included the primary carry - any backup or alternate weapons had to be financed personally.
Any additional range time is up to the individual officer. As far as additional courses my department sponsored me and ponied up a percentage of the training if it was in the interest of the department; however the bulk of my training was paid for personally. I'm guessing this is all going to be up to the department and local government's discretion. |

Well, it seems this one has gone from training to financing, and this ain't the Wall Street Journal folks.
