Bullet Boogers
I knew that would at least get ya' to look
I sometimes carry a S&W Airweight along with a small, soft dump pouch with ammo. After a while, the bullets develop verdigris(sp?). You know, that green fuzzy stuff that gets on the edges of brass and copper. I know it doesn't affect the cartridge performance, since they go "bang" when I do change em'. What can I put in the pouch to help keep the bullet boogers at bay? Solvents and oils might compromise the primers. How about silicone grease? Wax? Enquiring minds want to know... |

How long does it take for this verdigris (yes, you spelled it correctly) to appear on the ammo in the pouch?
Do you live near the ocean or handle the ammo a lot? IMO the best way to keep this from happening is to shoot up the ammo before they grow boogers! -Dave P.S. Moving this to General Discussion.

My reloads are Silvertips...aluminum-washed lead in nickel-plated cases. No tarnishing, no boogers.

10 to 1 that "dump pouch" is made of leather or some other porous material. If so, that is the cause of the case oxidation in it. That's the main reason nickel plated cases were invented - to prevent that very thing when bullets were carried in a looped belt.

May I suggest Silica gel sachets - Maybe gun/camera shops .
They are designed to soak up moisture.
