winchester 04a chambering

we're the 04a's all .22lr? And what is a.22 extra long?

Just like the name says, it was a black powder cartridge, longer than the 22 Long case, with the 40 gr bullet that later was used to turn the 22 Long into the 22 Long Rifle. Introduced in 1880, obsolete after 1935. Had a longer case than the 22 Long/Long Rifle, and held more powder, but was not noted for accuracy. Shot a 40 gr bullet at about the same velocity as 22 LR smokeless loads, so it became obsolete.
