accurizing rem 700 titanium

Thinking about getting a remington 700 titanium but would like to accurize the action.

Since it's made out of titanium, can this action be machined/accurized the same way and with the same tools as a normal steel action?

Would there be any difficulties in machining this material?

Thanks in advance

Yes. I have never done a Ti. action, but have worked Ti. 6ALV4. It is around 45 to 48 C, machings about like 4140, It does ten to gual when taped.

Gromit, if you get one, don't think they're handing you an empty box! They're light!

To keep mine light, I have a Weaver V3 on it. So, I'm not sure just how good it does shoot, "as is". I'm getting 1-1/2" with factory, so far; haven't started the handloads, yet...

For a walkin'-around deer gun, so far, so good.

Thanks for the responses. I also talked to George Gardner of Dennys Guns; he agrees that it won't be a problem- same as machining a normal steel action.

Gotta get my hands on one. I wonder how much weight is reduced from the action alone. The barrel is pretty short and thin and seems like a major contributor to the weight reduction.

the 6al4v we have tested here is usually 37 rc.
it is not friendly to drill nor tap. faciing and truing should not be a problem, and it does have a tendcy to gaul agreed.

as to weight it is 60% the weight of steel (pretty close)

Yeah, the barrel is a bit thin, but at 22" it's not that short.

Mine totals 6-1/4 pounds, field-ready. Much better to tote than my 9-3/4 pound Weatherby '06.
