Dillon Customer Service

A small, but crucial, part of my ancient Dillon 450/550 gave up the ghost. It was just a simple square of plastic with a hole in the middle. While fabricating a temporary replacement, another part was misplaced.

I eMailed Dillon Customer Service asking how to get replacement parts. The next day there was an envelope the mail with the parts and a spare square. An eMail announced the parts and delivery were free.

The small misplaced part has been redesigned so it stays with the loader and won't be lost in the future.

Many thanks, Dillon, Bravo Zulu.

I haven't used my RL-550B to reload in about 10 years (although I've done a bunch of case prep). Over the weekend, I went and started to use it to reload some .44 mags for my 329PD I expect to get in the next couple of weeks.

I'm missing the doohickey that attaches the ram to the powder dispenser whatchmacallit (stop me if I'm getting to technical), so I can case prep right now but can't reload yet.

So, I'm going to call them today and ask for a replacement. They'll try to ship if free, but I'm ready for that: I've got a couple things I need to also reload for my 45-70 Guide Gun, so I'll order those at the same time.

Awhile back my old and much used Square Deal was showing its age, so I called Dillon, with a grocery store list of parts to rebuild it.
I figured it would be much cheaper than buying anything else.
In short order, a good sized box arrived, shipping paid, with all the parts.
I was rooting around for the bill and finally found it under everything.
No Charge.
Not one penny.
For all those parts.

SO, while we're talking about it, I've been toying with the idea of getting a prograssive (read - Dillon) for handgun rounds.

I do not intend to load any rifle ammo at all. My rifle ammo is done in batches, like God intended. However, that whole one-pull, one-round thing has me intrigued for plinking, grandkid teaching handgun ammo.

Would I be better off with the Square Deal, or the 550B?

I bought the 550B a number of years ago and have used it for a whole lot of different calibers. It is a first class machine and Dillon service is the industry standard.

I am lucky enough to live close to the plant and they are some of the friendliest and knowledgeable folks around.

They stand behind what they sell and you can take that to the bank.

PawPaw, if you buy the RL-550B, you can still do rifle rounds in batches, it will just be easier with the -550 due to the toolhead and all the dies already set and adjusted.

Good luck.

Dillon service might be great, but their tech support knowledge base is somewhat lacking. Recommending/selling an incorrect expander for a rather spendy handgun brass (.30 Mauser) is not appreciated by me. I used to love my 550B, until (following Dillon's TS advice) it mangled one too many a case. The 550B is a great press if you don't exceed it's limitations. I now have a red press that exceeds what the Dillon could do without damaging precious metal.

Sorry to hear that.

I have never haid a bad experience with Dillon customer service.

Had one run in with a salesman there who had a real woody for AR platform shooters.

He is no longer there so I am guessing others had a problem with him also.

Just called, took about 2 minutes to get me fixed up and he answered my question, so I'm good to go again! Excellent service, as usual.

PawPaw,
Although Dillon continually improves the 550, one thing they can't do is add another station to the turret. I really like the idea of the powder checker available on 5-station loaders. If I were in the market for a new tool, a 5-station would be appealing; but, I'm not going to trade in my old 450/550.

Did anyone else follow eBay, on March 17th, when a well quipped used 550B (Item # 170615018214) went for $1,151.01 after an unsuccessful snipe in the final seconds?
