I don't think there's much outrage, rather shaking heads of disapproval

My bet is that the gun isn't in bad shape under the paint. If it were a little cheaper, I would buy it just to see.

Several years ago, I worked for a shop that went through a change in ownership. The prior owner's gunsmith left behind several guns that customers had never picked up. Some of these went back to the 1990's.
One of them was a Model 10 that had been painted woodland camo. Now, when I say "camo," well... Imagine feeding fruit cake to an excitable Labrador retriever. Now take the dog for a ride on the Space Mountain roller coaster. Repeat this process several times. The stuff he horks up is the closest approximation I can think of to the color scheme on this gun. Anyhow, the owner's phone had long since been disconnected, so we destroyed the gun. Guess who showed up a year after that (and 16 years after the gun had been left for service)? Yep. He was irate that we didn't have Bertha. All I could ask was, "why were you so angry at that gun?"

Ugly is an effective anti theft measure. I know that a little bit of odd paint prevented ladders and scaffolding from leaving a job site overnight. Being the only other guy in town with a pink ladder would look suspicious.

I mean -- did it not occur to you to ask the fellow why he waited SIXTEEN YEARS to show up and see about his gun?! As for the guy being irate... If it was the same shop with the same ownership, I suppose I could see him with a case. Otherwise, I'd give him the (last known?) address/number of the previous gunsmith, or just his name if that's all ya had and saying, "Pal, this could be a flower shop or a Burger King you walked in to. It simply happens to be another gun shop. But it's not the business you left that ugly gun with, so enjoy your quest somewhere else."

That came up. He sure as tootin' plum forgot all about it. It would be one thing if it had been a year or so, but one can't be expected to hold property in perpetuity without some sort of prior agreement.
I've forgotten many a things in my life..A firearm? Not so much.

Will that gun fire live ammo? The reason I ask is the police academy I went to used several revolvers for different types of training. They had fully functional guns for live fire range use. They had some for scenario training. These scenario guns had a rod driven down the barrel, used primed resized casings, and had their grips painted red to distinguish them from the live fire guns. The red on that gun looks similar to the red used on these training revolvers.

[QUOTE]There person who did this should be hung from the tallest tree that can be found.
[QUOTE] This kind of comment sets me on edge. There were several of this nature in this thread. These people need to step off. We're talking about a thing. Private property. Inanimate. It is not some objet d'art. Society will not lose anything by the modification done to this gun They can do anything they want to up to and including literally destroying it. I'm not the owner of the gun, I don't care for a red gun, but it's just a freeken gun, people. |

Guess you are less likely to loose it if you set it down. Should have used some sort of zombie glow paint. |

I took a number of Victory M&P's, removed the firing pin, painted them ugly red and used them for in-house unarmed defense classes at the PD. Some others like this J frame were done the same way for concealment and testing the officer's ability to locate one. The photo does not show but I bet the firing pin is gone.
