is it 35g or 28g of powder?

I was shocked the other day...

I usually shoot my revolvers using a 45acp case as a powder measure after reading that it holds about 28gr of black powder. However, on my adjustable powder measure, that same amount of powder reads at 35gr of powder. So which is it I'm more inclined to believe the pistol case and not the adjustable measure. and if that's the case, I've been loading my dragoon at 40gr using the powder measure which means I've only been loading at what....32gr?

I suppose the only definitive answer is to find someone at the club willing to measure it up for me on a more precise powder measure.

DGW chart shows 45acp holds 27.2 of 2F, or 27.8 of 3F.

I have 4 adjustable powder measures, picked up in odd lots from various auctions. They vary by as much as 15%, so it wouldn't surprise me to find that your adjustable measure is not accurate. The answer is to weigh a charge of fffg real black powder, as that weight will be close to the volume value.

I never believe what the adjustable measures or the spouts say. I weigh what they deliver and write it down. Had a couple of spouts come close but have never seen one deliver what they say.

The trick is find what works and be consistent with it.
