One Cool Knife
I haven't bought a decent knife in a long time. I was browsing in a knife store today and ran across one nice knife. A Kershaw Ken Onion Leek Model KS1660CKT. It's all black, tungsten stainless steel, 3'" blade. A very fast, "flick of the finger" opening, similar to a switchblade. It's smooth and fast in opening. It's one of those things you can't help playing with.
Anyone else out there make any nice knife purchases recently? |

It's a tungsten coating on the blade. The steel is 440A which is rather soft and will require frequent sharpening.Sorry !

As a matter of fact...I am a fan of SOG. I just bought a trident with a Micarta handle and a 6 1/4 inch blade. I love it!

I have carried a knife for back up for years. My favorite carry is Benchmade Axis Lock. Here is a link to one of my favorite models. This is their HK knife.
HK Benchmade I don't think this thread will last long though, its not firearms related. Here is a link to a good knife forum. KnifeForums.com |

Kershaw folder knife
Yes, I've got one of those Kershaw Chive knives. Very compact, very fast, and very sharp. So far, I haven't need to sharpen it. The assisted opener makes opening these knives very easy to open at the flick of a thumb. I like the fact you can lock the blade if you are carrying it in something that you don't want the blade to accidently "open" as it happens time to time. I personally find it too small for my hand, but as an emergency knife, it's great. Fits in a non-traditional wallet as well when you want something small. The knife I normally like is much bigger and heavier.

I'm not much of an "outdoorsman." I just shoot at a range, so the little Kershaw is more of cool thing to have than something I'm planning on cutting and skinning things up with on a daily basis. Sharpening isn't a concern.
Love the compactness, the flat black finish, and the very fast opening action. It's rapid opening is definitely attention capturing. Yep... I forgot about the little safety on it. I'll have to keep it in mind. So far, I just keep it next to my computer for a habit forming distraction. It would make a nice little emergency type blade. |

I just bought a benchmade Griptilian at cabelas made with d2 steel. A nice drop point folder with a thumb flip opener and d2 steel is about the best there is. A good deal for 79 bucks.

Thanks. It's really habit forming. I've got it setting on my desk and before I know it, I'm flicking it open and closing it. Guess it beats smoking for a habit.
Supposedly, it was the "fastest" opening knife in the store where I got it. I just have a medium size hand and it fits it perfectly. I've looked through the other Kershaws and this remains my favorite for a small, cool knife. Any other favorite cool knifes out there, Kershaw and non-Kershaw? I'll have to admit it brings to mind the scene in Crocodile Dundee where some punk pulls a small knife, similar to the Kershaw, on Croc when he's in NYC. It's hilarious when Croc then whips out his huge croc-fighting knife on the punk. Guess I need to stay away from Croc Dundee. |

I have the Kershaw Black Out ks1550st. I love the assisted opening. I tend to flick mine often also. Although it is smaller than my previous carry knifes, It's one of my favorites and currently sits in my front pocket.

Here's my current favorite. A SOG Pentagon Elite II. For those who like a BIG knife it just can't be beat.

In that price range SOG makes some very cool knives...I'd highly recommend checking out Benchmade for something made in 154cm.

The Leek is a nice knife. I picked up one in stainless that I use as my 'gentleman's folder' when some of my more aggressive stuff would cause panty-wads.
Kershaw's are good value knives, like CRKT, enjoy -

Good tactical folder...
My favorite is the Emerson Commander. Very nice knife and the "Wave" feature opens it as fast as an automatic.
