Open Sight or Red Dot?

For a Ruger Mark III .22 pistol, mostly target just for fun. Are the red dot scopes worth it and any suggested model?

Red Dot

I have the best of both. I have a 22/45 open sights and a buckmark camper with a red dot. I like them both. The thing I found with the red dot is it will show you how much you shake lol. It just comes down to personal preference.
If I put one on my ruger it will me a mini halo ie a fastfire II.
