Looking for recommendations on CCW training in Phoenix Arizona

Originally posted in Hogan's Alley (Tactical & Training) with no response, so I thought I'd post it under General Discussion.

If this is *not* the place for this sort of topic, I'd encourage the Mods to delete...

Okay, I did the search thing, and either messed up with all the wrong key words, or this topic hasn't had much discussion.

In either case, I apologized if I'm opening well trod ground...

Thinking about getting CCW "legal" in Arizona, and have investigated a couple of options. Neither of which gave me instant gratification or warm fuzzies.

I would appreciate the board's opinions on who, or which facility, might offer the best bang for the buck in the east valley.

Thanks...

Most CCW classes go shoot out at ben avery. Caswells has a class but it is a 12 hour and more expensive than the others. If you take theirs you can get a utah CCW too if you sent them the paperwork and $$.

There is a small store called ultimate accessories on power road and main. It is attached to a tire shop and their instructer is a retired cop I've heard.

I went to Scottsdale Gun Club. they have a few instructors 2 of them are lawyers and the one who taught me seemed pretty knowledgeable. CCW is a pretty basic class so I don't think the instructors have the time to get to advanced. much of the time is taken up by required material and answering dumb questions.

Thanks for the heads up info. I'll check around and see what fits best.
Ben Avery is a bit of a drive, but could become an option.

My wife and I took the class at Caswell's. They are the same price as everyone else in the east valley ($70). It is either 2 weeknights or one all day Sat class, same as everyone else. The state sets the number of hours required for the permit. The advantage of Caswell's is that they have the shooting range, whereas the classes offered by other people are held in a store backroom, or garage, then they make you drive out to the desert for the shooting portion.

The wife and I went to the one at Shooter's World, 3828 N 28th Av,
just a bit south of Indian School Rd, ph 602 266-2600. Fella who ran our class was retired FBI, and kept it pithy.
They have an indoor range there, do sales and transfers.

Sometimes some of the community colleges offer a class, but the shooting portion (on the last day) is off-site.

Thanks to all

The ArizonaShooting link has given me much information.

I live about 3 miles away from Caswell's, and while it's very convenient, I didn't want to immediately lock in on that as my best alternative.

Being a firm believer of the "If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't" philosophy, I didn't wish to be swayed by the polished appearance of the facility, nor any self-proclaimed "We're the best" advertising.

I'll continue to evaluate (paralysis by analysis) for a while, but I'd like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for your input.

A couple of additional resources:
AZ Dept of Public Safety Concealed Weapons Unit - check them out to make sure the trainer is on the approved list.

AZADFT - The course I took. So-so. Course held at Ben Avery
APDI - Another option. Also held at Ben Avery

My last CCW class was at Scottsdale Gun Club. Great facility and knowledgeable instructors.

I've taken classes at Caswell years ago. Can't go wrong there.

Frankly, if you pick a class at the same place that has its own range you can't go wrong. That includes Shooters World.

Those three cover pretty much the entire valley geographically, so pick the most convenient one to where you live or work and you'll be fine.
