Bore diameter Uberti SAA?

Fellas, trying to learn as much as I can before I purchase.

Contemplating a Uberti Cattleman in either 44-40 or 45 Colt. Wondered if the bores on these revolvers run pretty much true to spec, .429 (???) and .451"

Thanks in advance if any of you knows.

(And yes, I know how to slug a bore, but the purpose of my question is to gain enough information to figure out which mould and bullet sizer to buy before taking the plunge and buying the shooting iron).

I'm running a 0.429" through my Uberti/Smokewagon
44-40 with perfectily behaved results off the bench.
(primarily because the matching Uberti`73Win found a
0.431"/RemCase combo just a scoch tight)

No matter, the SAA liked the 429 just fine.

The spec for .44-40 is .427", but a lot of makers, in the interest of standardizing things, use .429" for everything "44".
Colt, back in the day, used .427" for everything "44".
I did some googling, and found reports of Ubertis with both .427 and .429, so you might have to slug it.

Bore diameter Uberti SAA

The 2015 DGW catalog (page 99) has the Dixie/Uberti Cattleman Flat Top Revolver specs:

Quote:
.45 LC: Broached rifling .004" deep, 1-18" twist, 6 [email protected]", 6 [email protected]".
(I don't know if the .004" is correct because the math does not equate in my mind...)

Quote:
.44-40: Broached rifling .008" deep, 1-20" twist, 6 [email protected]", 6 [email protected]".
Hope that helps.

Jim

The problem in many .45 revolvers is in the cylinder throat. Many can measure upward of .456". In spite of this, they can shoot very well with tolerable leading when the correct bullet size and hardness are used.
