45acp load for a 625 S&W revolver
Does anyone have any good pet loads for the S&W 625 45acp? I'm currently shooting 6grains of 231 behind a 200 round nose, seems to work ok, but trying to find something a little better.

I can't say if this is better, but what works well for me is 4.0g of Clays behind a 200g LSWC.

N frames + .45 caliber = My favorite combination!! 4.5 grains Bullseye 200 grain SWC cast or plated bullet (I use Rainiers) Federal 150 primer Star-Line brass OAL 1.25 --> 1.26 depending on bullet choice Does right at 800 fps from a 4" --> 5" barrel BTW" this same load is accurate and reliable in my semi-autos as well, plus it works with the stock recoil spring on a 1911. Good Luck... Joe

I like 230 grain bullets and Clays. I can't find anything better. Joe's Bullseye load also works great in my experience. I have burned a LOT of Bullseye in 45.

I use 4.8gr. 231 with 200 LRN, 6 inch barrell -- Taurus. Very accurate at 15 and 25 yds. Use the same load in my auto's.............ck

230 gr. Penn Hardcast TCFP, 3.3gr of Clays. Sooooooooft load, gives me a 1" group two handed unsupported at 25 feet. At 50 feet I pretty much can't see the back wall without a scope, so I call that good!

3.8 to 3.9 gr. Clays under a 230gr lead RN or 230gr Precision RN. Same charges should work with N-310 which meters better and produces a little less smoke than Clays.
4.0 Clays or 4.0 N-310 under a 230gr Frontier plated round nose. 4.2 to 4.5gr Winchester Super Target (WST) under a 230gr lead RN. 5.1 gr. WST under a 200gr lead RNFP. 5.2 WST under a 200gr Precision RNFP. All are clean and accurate, exceed 165 power factor, and cause little to no leading in my S&W 625. Chris |
