extractor issues

Been readin a lot of posts on extractor issues these day...what are the differences between the two? Why would any manufacturer go to an external design if it wasn't better?

from my under standing it is cheaper and easier to fix and external extratractors if your gun is out of warranty and you have to fit the bill. also it is cheaper to manufactuer. internal they have to drill the old one out and it will cost more in labor. thats just my understanding. if i am wrong please let me know and i will not keep filling peoples head with wrong info

It's not which one is better, but the QC of the part. Both types are durable, Both sometimes have problems. If you heat treat the part incorrectly, it will be too brittle and break.
