Guns That You Keep Buying...And Then Selling

Hi all,
So here I am once again looking at buying a Walther pistol, either a PPQ or a P99. To be up front I have owned and traded 2 PPQs and 2 P99s. Why? Some had issues (I am a lemon magnet and none were bad to the point I wouldn't own them again), some because I wanted something else at the moment. Yet here I am once again looking at buying one. I'm well aware of the stupidity of this, especially violating Cheap Shooter's #1 Rule .

I'm curious if any of you have found yourselves in the same boat that sees a particular gun model periodically residing in your collection?

I have sold s few in my early years. That said, I only have one return from those that I had sold. A Dan Wesson .357 fixed barrel made at the end of the
company we knew. I have looked at other models I have given up, but when it comes down to it, I sold most of those for a reason (not for need of money) that they no longer belong in my collection. If any thing I look more for those that I had passed up buying when I had a chance. You know the ones I speak of, the kick yourself in the pants for not buying it. I know that one day I may have to cull my collection, but if I do, it will be in an effort to replace them with certain high quality (expensive) models. Been hankering for a really top end 1911 lately. Would have to make cash for it by selling something. But just not right now.

I sold my first Ruger SR9 and regretted it as soon as I did it. I bought another one when the latest release with the "D" shaped mag release came out and will never part with it.

For some reason I have bought and sold several FNP 45s I currently have 2 FNX 45s that will remain.

I've owned 4 Glock 23's... (3 gen3's and a Gen4)

and 3 Glock 21's... (Gen3, Gen3 SF, Gen4)

and some others...

But to be fair, I fell in love with the gen4 Glock 21. The Gen3(even SF) just seemed to slip around in my hand too much.

I do this with a Glock 26. I convince myself that I have a 19 and I will get something smaller for when I need to be more discreet. Then I sell the 26 and buy something smaller. I then realize that I dont shoot the micro as well I shoot the sub.I find the 26 more comfortable in the AIWB and always wind up buying another. Currently on the hunt for yet another

That's funny because in the past two years I have sold a PPK, two S&W J frames, and am in the process of selling a Sig 232. The sad thing is I will probably own all three of these at some point again. I would have liked to keep all of them, but until I pay off all my school loans I usually need to sell one of my guns to get another gun I want.

Nope. I have never sold a firearm since I sold my Remington Wingmaster 870 16 guage to finance my Belgium Browning Light 12 when I was in high school back in 1968. To this day I still checkout Gunbroker for a really nice Wingmaster from time to time LOL.

BTW back then it was a cash transaction in the parking lot of the school between two teenagers and no one cared.

I still have my SW SW40F Sigma. Don't really shoot it anymore but I figure for the little I could get for it I would rather keep it for a trunk gun or to give to a neighbor to use in case of some cataclysmic event shows up in the neighborhood like government EBT cards not being accepted anymore.

For a few years I did a lot of buying selling and trading to get my hands on as many different pistols as I could. I could not afford to buy and keep them all but I wanted to try a lots to see what I liked and didn't.

Bought sold lots of 1911s, Glocks, a few revolvers, lots ruger semi autos.
So after all that I now have a bunch of revolvers that I don't want to ever sell and starting look at 1911s again but as keepers this time around.

I hope to never sell any, and I've only got 3 now. The only one I might sell is my Maverick 88 shotgun because it's a lower end 12 gauge and nothing special.

My old Model 10 and my 92fs? Nope! Keeping those.

1911's are too much work. I have only been lucky with Colts. Five out of seven have been duds.

Ruger SP101, though I stopped buying it. It is truly a terrible design that does just about everything wrong for a revolver. I just go with the GP100 instead.

Browning High Powers. They require too much work to setup the way I want. They shoot well enough out of the box, even with a heavy trigger.

Glocks in 40 S&W are out for me.

Sig 229s.

I wanted one really badly not long ago and found a good deal. Soon after, I decided that it was a little too clunky for my needs and wanted something else. I made a great trade and got a very nice AR in exchange. Fast forward a few weeks and I ran across a great deal on another P229. I might rather have a Glock 32 but it's hard to find anything right now so I decided that I would rather have the Sig than nothing. It won't be hard to sell or trade the later if I find something that I like better.

I know what forum this is but I also keep finding good deals on Benelli Super 90s. I inevitably sell or trade them since they don't really fit me and I don't shoot them well.

Glocks- none of the new ones eject like a good gun should.

any handgun that turns out to be to big to carry then later I think I would be able hide it then I can't and sell it.

Ruger 22 semi-autos. I don't even know how many I've owned, but just since Christmas, I've bought three and sold two. They're just fun to buy and make great trade bait.

Dan Wesson 22 revolvers. I get one, shoot it for a while, sell/trade it, get another one, sell/trade it...Right now, I don't have one. Who knows about tomorrow.

Smith & Wesson M&P/Model 10's. I've owned a half dozen or so of those, but only have one now. The one I have, I used to own, sold then bought back.

Smith & Wesson 39-2's. I've owned three of them over the years.

The shop I work in is a different set up than most. I am frequently alone, as the company favors small, 1-2 man operations for most of our locations. One plus is that lower traffic per store creates a very personal atmosphere. We often get to know our clients very well.

I've seen the sell it, buy another one dance done repeatedly-- most commonly with Glocks. Part of this is because of how common they are, but the way that people communicate about this habit leads me to believe that the form of Glocks lends them readily to the "firearms are tools" position. When a person has 5 handguns, one of which is a Glock, it seems to be safe money betting that the Glock is the sacrificial lamb when it's time to sell something to fund a new buy.

I know more than a few guys who have purchased 2-4 of the same model of Glock in this pattern.

Personally, I prioritize tools. Safe queens or range toys are not even in consideration until I get my needs covered.
