Looking for a Glock 19 Gen4 (don't laugh)
I live in Colorado (just to illustrate my day-to-day struggles these days). My neighbor has never owned a gun but he wants on the bandwagon! We went and shot some of mine and he wants a Glock 19 Gen 4. IMHO the best choice for him, nice all round excellent gun.
Now the real problem: WHERE CAN WE FIND ONE?? I am posting on the forums i visit and participate in, hoping that someone can let me know if they saw one laying at a shop in Colorado or online without the dreaded "out of stock" phrase.. Let me know and thanks! |

Ha yea good luck (tried not to laugh, sorry). The best way to find one around here is watch the classified ads like a hawk and call as soon as you see the ad. And be prepared to pony up a good $600-700 (maybe more?) for it. Unfourtunately everybody who is selling one right now knows about the demand for them
My advice would be to wait a few months, might be a more reasonable market for them by then

Is he set on the Gen 4 or would be be OK with a Gen 3? A Gen 3 should be much easier to find, at least it is where I live.

I will second Theo here. Is there a particular feature of the Gen 4 that he needs? I personally use the largest backstrap because it fits the best with the hams I call my hands. But if he doesn't need that, there's really no reason not to get a Gen 3. They should be easier to find, and you might (I stress the word 'might') be able to find a police trade in.

He really likes the grip texture on the Gen 4. I have a G23 Gen4 but he likes 9mm better than 40. Conclusion: G19 Gen4
Do the Gen3's have the double recoil spring? (do gen 4 19's even have that?) Thanks! |

Gen 3's do not, Gen 4's do have the spring. Glock claims they make the spring last longer, and make the gun perform better. It might help it last longer, but it does nothing to performance. My understanding was that they added them to all their guns to consolidate their production of springs. Since the Baby Glocks have been using the double springs, it made sense for them to just make them all that way. That seems to be the most likely reason they did that. It saves Glock a bunch on overhead.
Having said that, good luck finding the Gen 4 G19. Glocks in general seem to be unicorns right now (though I saw a G24 a month ago that I really wanted...but just didn't have the scratch). I'd check gunbroker. Maybe cozy up to someone at your LGS and see if they'll call you if they get one in...maybe even offer to put some money down or something. I honestly don't know the best way to find one without tailing the UPS truck that delivers to your LGS. |

I find that my gen 4 G23 shoots and handles soo much smoother than my Gen2 G17. I dont know if thats because of the spring or whatever but you can feel the difference. I have a love affair with my G23 by the way and cant find anything bad to say about her <3

I bought a 19 Gen 4 yesterday, $425.00 plus tax.
Hopefully the weather clears up and I can find some ammo so I can shoot it |

Why not get a G23 and then buy a 9mm conversion barrel - he'll get two guns in one.

They can be had in the Dallas, TX area. Google:
Cheaper Than Dirt Bachman Pawn and Gun Your friend will need to call them and set up an FFL transfer to Colorado.

Try Glock Store (www.glockstore.com), they had both Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks in stock last time I checked. I'm hoping to buy myself a couple of Gen 4s this year. May get the 19 for my birthday, and the 26 for Christmas!
