ruger 3 screw .22 cylinder identification

Good day,
I just bought a ruger 3 screw .22 and I can't tell which cylinder is for the 22 mag and which is for the .22 lr. One cylinder has inset circles for the rim to sit in and one has a rim around the outside with half circles to inset the rim into, both are fluted. Does any one know how to tell the difference?

I don have one.....

The 22 mag case is larger in diameter than the 22lr. So... the 22lr should be a sloppy fit when placed in the 22 mag cylinder.

The lr rounds will be loose in the mag cyl. or the 22wmr won't load into the lr cyl. If one has a cut ring for the firing pin and the other does not then the one without may be a later made cyl. Check the front of the cyl. there you should find some hand etched numbers. Those numbers should be the same on both cyl. and should match the last numbers in the SN of your gun. If the numbers don't match the cyl. may not be timed to your gun. If it is out of time you could damage the gun or shave lead out the side of the forceing cone.

The one with the fully surrounded cartridge rims is for the WMR. What the OP describes as "inset circles."
