Joseph Manton flintlock gunmaker

Here is a neat 50 min video on Joseph Manton and his guns. Two things I enjoyed were the smiths fabricating modern guns and the Manton improvement which shortened (or lowered) the sidewall where the touch hole is for shorter distance to the powder (and thus faster ignition). I was unaware of that. Check out that gravity operated safety too (24 min). Raised rear rib to raise the point of aim (28 min). Heavier barrel dueling pistol for less muzzle flip (31:15).

He may have skipped the required proofing by a proof house (37 min).
