Fouling - What is it?
Hi, folks. Don't post often. Am a very experience riflemen but a rookie with muzzle loaders - just getting started with them this year. I purchased new an older-model Knight disc rifle. I have started experimenting with loads, and right now, I'm still playing with things at three pellets of 777 under a Powerbelt bullet. I have noticed fowling at the chamber end of the barrel that is much harder to remove than that farther out in the tube. Is this more likely to be powder or plastic fouling I'm dealing with?

If the fouling is truely at the base of the chamber, I would suspect powder fouling. If farther up the barrel, then it might be plastic fouling.

Thanks. I have since undertaken to educate myself a little more, and my current cleaning method leave the barrel looking as good as new.
Thanks again for the reply. Best, Jon |
