Happen to own not one, but two Ruger Blackhawks in .38-40. The cost of this ammo is the reason I got into reloading in the first place. I've kinda settled into loading a 180g bullet with 6.1-6.4g of Unique.
Any other suggestions? How about W231? |

John D (Rockefellow??), go to www.sixgunner.com and start cruising the articles by Paco and John Taffin, both current and in their archives.
You'll find some good stuff there on both powders and loads for .38-40. Good luck. J.B. |

231 would be fine. Lately I've been using TiteGroup with great results. It was designed to be used in the large capacity pistol cases (ie...those that were originally blackpowder catridges); it isn't position sensitive which can be a problem with other powders. The combination of a large case and small loading density gives the powder a lot of room to move around which can affect consistency. TiteGroup helps overcome this little problem. Jack |
