CZ 75 Compact or CZ P-01?

I've had experience firing the CZ P-01 and I absolutely loved it, however, I'm also looking at the CZ75 compact.

I've fired a full sized CZ75 and it too was extremely pleasent to shoot, so if the compact version is comperable, my decision would appear to have become much harder. I really like the look of it, and if I can find one to shoot, well, then all the better.

This would essnetially be used for home defense, possible concealed carry and over all plinking.

Has anyone had experiece with the CZ75 compact? I'd really like to know more about it and the opinions people have on it.

EDIT: NVM, I found what I was looking for elsewhere. Thank you for looking though.

The compact is essentially the same gun as the P-01, except the compact is all-steel with a safety, while the P-01 is alloy-framed with a decocker.

So, the compact is heavier with a safety, while the P-01 is lighter with a decocker. The frame dimensions are identical.

The P-01 has a front rail, making a little harder to CC. The PCR is similar to the P-01 in that it has an alloy frame, but is similar to the 75 Compact in that it doesn't have a rail (and I think PCRsl have safeties, not decockers).

I'd go for a PCR if you like the safety and no rail, or the P-01 if you like the decocker and rail. I have a P01.

Depends. You get to pick and choose

If you plan on carrying the 75 Compact in DA, it'll require a long reach and a long pull for the finger. If you hands that can palm a basketball, you're good to go.

Some seem to favor carry with the hammer at half-cock. That offers a tad shorter reach for the DA pull.

Then there is cocked and locked. Geo Smith at EGW can make the thumb safety a bit wider, more like the teardrop ledge in a 1911A1.

Choices are a good thing and the 75 Compact offers you three.

Its just me, but none seem to be particularly competitive with other options.

Just my opinion,

salty

I have medium to small hands and I can reach the DA pull on my P-01 fine.

Personally I like the rail on the P-01. I have no qualms about using the P-01 for home defense and as such like the rail. I don't find it makes concealing any harder, but I use Crossbreed style holsters if that makes a difference.

The CZ's, both decocker and safety models are designed to be safely carried at half cock. That reduces the trigger travel, and make it manageable for those that are finger/hand length challenged.

For home defense, I'd get a full sized CZ like an all steel SP-01 or 75B, however the PCR can double for carry, as can the P-01 or Compact. They are all really fines pistols.

I have a 75B, and PCR, plus the Kadet Kit for cheap practice, and fun plinking.

Have you considered the CZ 75 P-07 duty? I have one in .40 and it works great, pretty light, and accurate. The omega trigger is fantastic, and so far dead on reliable.

I've never fired anything in .40 S&W, but seeing as this is my first departure from a .22 LR handgun, I want to start off relatively small, and the cost of 9mm is hard to pass up and is by far the caliber I'm most familiar with beyond that of a .22 LR.

Once I feel confident in my abilities using a 9mm, I may move up to a .40 S&W if not a .45 ACP

Maybe you could find a place to rent the 75 Compact and form your own opinion.

I have one and its OK. Its not great, but not awful either, just OK.

Like Pilot, if I were to carry it DA/SA, it'd be carried at half cock.

Maybe I am challenged, but I can't seem to keep the sights aligned through, and follow through, the long reach heavy DA haul. Arthritis happens.

Mine does have the ledge on the thumb safety built up by EGW. Carries OK in SA mode and the thumb safety has a more familiar '1911ish' comfy feel to it.

The PO-1 is heavy enough IMO. No need to shoot the heavier compact.

The P01 has a few hidden extras the Compact doesn't have, such as extended slide release, beveled magwell and recessed takedown pin.

The duty comes in 9mm. Of all the guns I have shot, this one fits the best. The surface texture is really aggressive but the pads on the fram are a great device for helping me to remember to keep my finger off the trigger. All in all, I am a great fan of the CZ line, from the lowly 82 mil surps to the shadow. You will not go wrong no matter which you choose.

Couldn't agree more. The PCR is nice if you don't want a rail.

I regret trading my CZ75 Compact away. It was my conceal carry. It was not a decocker. The look and feel of that gun, perfect in my opinion! My only gripe was I did not feel safe carrying it Condition 1 and manually decocking seemed too risky. Next time I have the money available and have a chance to get either a full size or a compact (with decocker option) there will be no hesitation!

I have a couple of poly frame guns, but to me, the feel of quality and solidness you get in a steel frame gun is hard to beat.

I've been decocking my CZ 75B , and other guns for decades without incident. It is not difficult to do safely, and if you are really scared of it, put your thumb in front of the hammer before you decock.

I carry my CZ 75 compact everyday and it has never let me down. At first the weight took some getting used to, but I don't even notice it now. I have always been a revolver guy but I will have to say these CZ pistols do grow on you. Trying to decide which one to buy next. Over all it's a great little pistol.

I like my CZ75B Compact- due to SA/DA feature, instead of DA/SA. The P01 was OK, but after 1000 + pulls, the trigger still didn't feel good. I grew up w/ 1911, so it feels at home having side mounted safety.

If you want the lightness of the PCR but like the safety rather than decocker you might also consider the Canik 100 which is basically a copy of the compact but with an alloy frame. Buds now stocks them as well as a couple of other places. Have had mine for over a year and really like it. It also seems to get along fine with my many CZ's

Or just pick up one of the decocker models if you're not interested in cocked and locked.

"Buds now stocks them as well as a couple of other places"

Yep - got an email from Buds the other day notifying me they came in - Got one on layaway now for 90 days same as cash. CZ75BD. Glad I saved the holster from my last CZ75!

For grins and giggles - if you have not seen Hickock45's youtube on the CZ75 - its worth watching - its 24 minutes long and I swear that man must be putting 500 rounds down range, hitting the gong and making it all look easy.
