My 58 Musket
I don't think they make these anymore. It's a Euroarms 58 cal. Musketoon.
They sure are accurate. Anybody have one like it? Last edited by kwhi43; January 17, 2016 at 09:58 AM. |

I have a Parker Hale musketoon but not one with a rear sight like yours. That's an amazing sight. Where did you get it?

I got it from a guy in Australia . It is a Peabody Martini cadet sight. I don't
use the musket anymore. Might put it up for sale. If I do, I will put it in the For Sale section. |

GARY,
I've also got a Parker Hale musketoon (original PH back from `75/`76)** and have both the PH thick-skirt and Lyman thin skirt OS Minnies. Out of curiosity, which bullet does yours prefer ? **(First BP weapon I ever owned) |

I use the PH thick skirt. It's the only mould I have for the three Parker Hales (Rifle, short rifle and musketoon). They shoot well with it.

I've heard the musketoons weren't used during the ACW.
Any truth to that? |

The guy in these videos uses paperpatched bullets in the Enfield. He's done a lot of work perfecting cartidge making

Wow, thank Hawg.
It appears they were wrong. I think the Musketoons are soooo neat, so short yet powerful and accurate. It's like a 19th century Mosin M44! |

Depending on where the Enfield was made, it can be a better weapon. Some springs were not properly heat treated and were too brittle and prone to breakage. "Enfield" made in Belgium could be pretty bad and in that case, i'd rather have a Springfield. However, if the Enfield was made to British standards, I'll take that instead.

Yeah they subcontracted out the Enfield to various makers to fill the ACW demand.
Some were better than others, by a lot. |

I have the PH that I bought new in '73. Also my first BP rifle and I still have and shoot it. The blade front and "V" rear sight just didn't work for me so I did this without sacrificing something that couldn't be reversed. Although I don't intend to.
Ground the front blade down to the block. Drilled and tapped for a post which can be easily be replaced with a different height. Channeled the block to accept a hood. Squared the rear "V" to accept the post. Shortly thereafter, a friend and myself shot a 5 shot, 2 1/2" group at 75 yards. I shot first and we alternated. We did not attempt to improve on it.
