Finding someone to clean vintage optics
I have an old M-84 telescope that went on an M-1 Garand that has dirt in it. I would like to find someone that is highly experienced in cleaning optics. Preferably someone who knows this telescope in particular. Any references would be very much appreciated.

Hello FlyboyAZ,
Have you considered looking at vintage camera web sites? They have the skills I beleive your are looking for as most cameras are more complicated than scopes. Regards, UK2TX |

If it were an old camera I'd do a web search for Harry Fleenor -- one of those old NASA types who turned his hobby into a business when the rocket-science work slowed down. Fleenor concentrates on old Rolleiflex cameras (made most recently in the 50's, though there was a remake a few years back that was more commemorative than anything else).
E-mail the guy and see what he says. I think he'd be your best bet. There's also Bill Maxwell of Maxwell Precision Optics, but he's involved in an ugly divorce right now -- lovely work, but I don't know that he's got the time for it right now. Watch out -- he'll talk your ear off. One of these guys should be able to help, or at least tell you where to turn.

Hey thanks guys. I will look up the two references that you made. I hope to get this fixed sometime soon but can't just ship my toys away without reassurance. Thanks for all of the help.
