Is this a good deal?

My uncle is going to sell me his Colt 1911 for $675.

It's not in the best condition as it has hair line scuffs and marks on it.

My other question is there anyway to get the scratches and scuffs buffed out? Thanks.

Here are a few pics....

I don't think you'll be getting most of those out without sending it to be refinished. I personally wouldn't even care, and just shoot the crap out of it

Bright Stainless Colts command a higher premium than matte Stainless or blued guns. In its current condition I would consider $675 a bit high. $600 seems more fair.

If it had only light surface scratches it would be worth more but there appears to be a fair amount of muzzle wear and wear on the back of the sides of the slide.

If you are going to use this as a shooter you can get some mothers mag metal polish or flitz and carefully buff out a lot of the minor handling wear. The reality is that almost anything and everything will scratch that type of non-hardened finish.

I would snap it up at that price & ScotchBrite the gun to make the finish an even matte stainless before I shot the snot outta it.

I'd buy it and the scratches wouldn't bother me in the least.

I'd buy it for that price. Plus, you know the history of the gun and how it's been treated. Thats a bonus in my book.

That's an enhanced model, and well worth the $675.

As noted, the scratches will buff out. Flitz and some 000 or 0000 steel wool should do it. Don't use too much pressure.

Kylen- I gotta agree with the others. That's a great price. If you want a new one- cough up the dough for one and let that deal go to another family member.

For carry and general tote-around service? Take a peek at the Trijicon or TruGlo or Meprolite night sights. Those wouldn't break the bank, look sharp, and provide fine service for a long time.

What do you mean by "Easy there"? I wasnt trying to come off like a jerk or anything. Sorry if it came off that way.

Don't blame ya- I'd be like a giggly little kid at Christmas! Sure looks a whole lot sweeter than the Springfields that've followed me home. One of these days I'll put a couple of them together for a trade towards just one nice Colt like yours.

I think outside of a private sale like this one, you'll have a difficult time finding one at that price.

Isnt this a chrome plated steel gun? If you scotchbright the crap out of it then you run the risk of going through the chrome. Thats a much bigger problem than a few blemishes.
For $675 you can buy quite a few new 1911's.

AFAIK, it's a high-polish stainless steel, & not chrome plated.

While you may be able to buy two new junque 1911's for $675, please feel free to post where we all can obtain even ONE new Colt 1911 for what amounts to chump change for a Colt.

FWIW, all 1911's are NOT created equal................................

If your die hard for a Colt then you have to spend $950 or more. You can buy an STI in that range.
From the picture the pistol looks chromed and not polished SS. I saw a Colt at the range last week that was chromed, oddly it had the same grip on it. If its SS than I stand corrected, Im not a colt aficionado.

Leave it as is. It has character, and signs of being used (shot) and not a safe queen. You can look at this way, if you should scratch it no big deal. Refinish it, and scratch it, and have a heart attack

This kind of wear/tear on a gun is really a beautiful thing in my eyes.

Shows that the gun was not / is not a safe queen. That its carried fired and used as a tool for defense...

Id buy it in a heartbeat.

Thanks for all the helpful info. I will be purchasing it in a week. Also I believe the SS before the serial number indicated Stainless Steel. So to answer your question BoogieMan. I believe that's what it is. Not sure however. Thanks guys.
