Rem LTR & 125 gr load?

I loaded up some 308's with 125 gr TNTs and 44 gr of xmr4064. I expected this to produce maybe 1/2' grps. But it was more like 3" groups!

Scope looks solid, and looking at my old records I never shot 125's before!?!

Anybody care to share load data for these bullets? (I get about .5 moa with these in my 700VS).

There is no competition whatsoever for the following .308/125 grain recipe:

51.5 grains W748

Some folks have had good results with 51.0 grains and the 125 TNT's.

Seat the bullet a caliber's depth (.30") into the case, don't worry about loading to the lands, the bullet is too short. The added bearing surface of the .30" seat will help consistency.

I like the Nosler BT's in the 125 grain variation, but the Speers do pretty well from what I'm reading and seeing...

W748 is the powder, without a doubt.

Please try it and post back with your splendid results!

Well, I don't have 748, but its speed is similar to 4064. 50 grains is a lot of powder!

I think I was expanding primer pockets with about 48 gr of 4895, and the TNT's were doing about 3200 fps...

I read in the last few days, at the AccurateReloding.com site about someone who didn't get very good results with the IMR 4064 and the 125's in the .308. This of course doesn't mean that you won't, but I though I'd pass that along.

There's something almost magic about the 51 to 51.5 grain charge of 748 with the 125's in the .308.

As I said to someone else asking about a 125 grain .308 load, if your rifle won't shoot this load I'll bet your dog is a vegetarian!

Let us know how the 4064 does if you do try it...

Dan, yer gettin me exited with this "magic" load! I bought a box of 500 of the tnt's cause they are both high-speed and I can get maybe 1/2 moa with a longer barrel.

But my first loads in the LTR were about 3" grps

So maybe I'll pick up a bottle of 748 this weekend - whats another lb or so! Gotta keep those shelves loaded ...
