250gr 45ACP loads
hello all. I am about to have a nice little bolt action carbine in 45ACP and am looking to put together a good hunting round for it. the only problem is that all of the reloading manuals I've looked at only give loads for 230GR and below and I was hoping to load up some 250gr hornady FTX into them.
also, can anyone explain the difference between FTX, XTP and AMAX to me?

I don't know it you throated your 45acp carbine per SAAMI.
I did in my 45acp rifle, but my 45acp revolver has a very long throat. I worked up a powerful load in a 45acp revolver using 45auto rim brass. Instead of seating at 1.275" to get it to fit and feed from a magazine, I seated at 1.4" an it allowed me to use slower powder, LIL'GUN. With 300 gr, I was able to seat at 1.555"

it takes standard 1911 mags so in all practicality it would be a single shot hunting rifle, I found that out the hard way when I loaded black tip bullets into 300 weatherby casings...still fun as heck though if you remind yourself that you only have 1 shot and to make it count.
