Thank you. I am new to the rifle game, but this year alone I dropped $1,553 bucks on this rifle, my Mini 14 and all the magazines.
With no end in sight. I need more rifles, and more optics, and more ammo... I love this M16 22lr, it is a blast to shoot, and easy to go out and dump 20 bucks for 500 rounds. Bad thing about the Colt M16 22lr, you have to dial in the ammo you shot, and if you change you will have to redail it, and it takes about 30 minutes of trial and error. I am not going though that any more. I only shoot blazer 40 gr HV lead heads. Does not jam, fail to feed, fail to eject. Runs like a dream. |

22lr
Hard to not have fun with a shooter like that! That's why I love my Smith with it's Nikon M-223 1-4 Point Blank Reticle.

Marquezj16 -- I just received the M&P 15-22 (performance center model) and have been contemplating buying either an M&P 15 OR or Sport (when I can find one). The Sport is almost $300 less (based on Buds' prices). I am heavily leaning that way since I really don't think I'll miss the dust cover or the forward assist and putting the $300 towards better optics. Since you own both, how do they stack up? Any difference in accuracy or reliability between the Sport and the OR? Also, I see you have the Magpul forend on your Sport. What's the rail system you have mounted on the OR?

Since I have not used a scope on the Sport I don't know what it's accuracy is. I did however shoot at a 12x12 cold rold metal target at 260 yards and was repeatedly rewarded with a loud thud each time. So I think it's plenty accurate. If you are not bothered by not having a dust cover and forward assist and can get the Sport under $600, I say go with the Sport. If you ever do shoot out the barrel (not chrome lined or chromaly), you can always get a milspec upper from Bravo Company. However if you can find an OR for under $800 and if the $100 rebate still applies, I'd go with the OR. I replaced the handguard that came with the sport because it did not have a heatshield. I got carried away and decided to dress it up with more magpul parts. The rail system on my OR is from Troy. It's a drop in. Whatever you end up choosing, remember it's your choice. I hope you get a good one and enjoy it. Safe shooting. Last edited by Marquezj16; June 20, 2011 at 11:38 PM. Reason: More info |

great pics
Always interested in what folks are shooting and at what distances. Seems like so many of us these days want to shoot reactive targets instead of just punch holes in paper. It's all about fun!
Here's a photo from a Nikon Shoot we just did in Mo. where one of the targets was moving Prairie Dogs. They were mounted on a remote controlled base and shot with 22LR's. Huge fun. http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/...iriedogs-1.jpg |

I'd love to shoot a moving target. Last range session, I shot my M&P 15-22 using mostly iron sights at 50 yards, pic below.
Also had a spinner (3", 2" and 1") out at 50, used both BSA Stealth red dot and iron sights offhand. 75% hit rate with red dot and 50% with iron sights (sorry no pics) Also shot at 100 yards with iron sight, amazed that I was consistently hitting a two inch bullseye once I figured out my point of aim to be about 6" high (again no pictures). I have so much fun shooting this rifle. It's give me the trigger time to work on my basics. |
