I'd go with a Remington 11-87 with slugs.
Or if you're dedicated to a rifle, the .50 beowulf. Even if you're limited to 5 rounds, it's a real pounder and extra magazines can be quickly loaded...

How 'bout a Benelli 18" M1 Tactical Shotgun? That gun will shoot 6 or 7 slugs real fast...

Remington made the 7400 in .35 Whelen for a couple of years, though I confess that I've never seen one in the flesh. The 7600 pump seems to be much more common in that caliber. They do show a .35 Whelen barrel for the 7400 in their parts listings, so you could get one built.
That's a four shot magazine. If you did go with a pump, Triple K makes a 10 round steel magazine for the Remingtons. |
