The Standard Catalog says that your Smith & Wesson revolver was made between October and December, 1982. Given that serial number, it's most likely an L-frame, Models 581, 586 (blued) or 681, 686 (stainless)

Sevens is a nut. Helpful, but a nut. Nothing new there.
5744 is a tough one. Versatile but incredibly dirty. I've tried it in heavy Colt loads, 460 S&W, and 7tcu. Only the 7tcu was tidy. It burned nicely in that. The other loads had irratic burn. I could pull fired cases out of the gun and dump partially burned powder out of them. The bore was littered with granules. I finally got rid of my pound of that stuff fire forming loads for the 7tcu. |
