Why short deer season, IL
I was wondering why in IL, all shot gun hunting has to be done in the two weekends? It seems a lot more dangerous to make all the firearm deer hunters be out the same two weekends? Why dont they break the permits into three or four weekends by last name or lottery? Why does there have to be such a limited time? Bow season runs several mo. so there is not likely a biological reason for the two weekend limit. There is a limited no. of permits issued. Why not let people hunt all winter untill they fill their tag? There would be a lot less accidents and fights if IL didnt put thousands of armed people in a pressuar cooker of crowded woods and extreeem time restraints? Am I missing someting?

Illinois is a tragically sad state. It is full of good conservative rural people with a government run by socialist Chicago urbanites. It has a lot of good things going for it with technology and industry, but I gave up trying to figure out why the folks in Illinois seems to love useless beureaucracy. The Wildlife Department seems just an arm of that mindset.

If you feel you're getting "cookie cutter" answers from the state DNR, push back and challenge their reasonings. Quote:
Sounds like there may be a deficit of public land. You want a longer deer gun season? I understand that -- there's only a 9-day season here in Wisconsin. But, there are firearm safety rules for a reason, and if people choose not to follow these rules because they feel it will somehow increase their ability to harvest animals... well again, that's not the state's fault. |

It makes no sense, that's for sure
If they added a week, they would sell more tags, so they're shooting themselves in the foot, in addition to hacking off the citizens. Since the money issue is in the gov'ts favor, it may actually get results for you to write the wildlife department and your legislators there, and attend public meetings of the wildlife department. Meet with your legislator if possible. If you have money, donate to his/her re-election campaign - that can get a bill introduced.
