250 gr 45 lc lead in 45-70 case?

is it possible to load 250 gr .452 hard cast lead for 45 lc in a 45-70 brass? if so how much powder should i use? i have loads for 300 grain jacketed can i use it for the 250?

.452 is way too small for an .457-.459 barrel. I have an old Lyman mould for the .45 Colt that casts a bit over .456 and those bullets shoot poorly in my .45-70s.

One thing you can try is to paper patch them up to about .460. You'll need help from someone else on that because while I know it can be done, I've never had any success doing it.

10 grains of Unique would be an appropriate charge.

To the best of my knowledge...

45acp = .451-.452
45LC = .454-.455
.45/70 and .450marlin = .458-.459

That's almost like using a 44mag bullet for a 45acp load.

Reminds me of a line from the Family Guy where Stewie is talking to a lady of the night: "So is there any tread left on the tires at all, or is it like throwing a hot dog down a hallway at this point?"

azredhawk is right but current .45LCs are .452 also and will work with .45ACP bullets. This change was made sometime after WW2, so if you are getting poor accuracy with an older .45 revolver using commercial cast bullets you may want to check your bore diameter.
