Trigger job for Savage 99

I have a good friend who is trying to find a decent smith to do a trigger job on a 99 Savage he owns. I did the work for him on his Ruger 77 but i dont do the filing thing so i think i'll hand the 99 off to someone. Any suggestions. If one is near Charlotte NC great, but if it needs to be sent off hes more than willing. Thanks in advance.

If memory serves, the book by Wolfe publishing called "Gunsmithing Tips" has a section on tuning the trigger and accuracy tuning the 99. I'm not in my shop now, so I can't look at the book. Maybe someone else can verify. The book is available from Brownells.

Because of the nature of the mechanism, it's impossible to get a super crisp or light trigger on a 99. That being said, the factory triggers are horrible and I can offer a trigger job that is a vast improvement.

Check out my site and give me a hollar.

Use a lot of caution in working on the trigger of a Savage 99. If you cut down the engagement too much, the gun can fire when the bolt is closing, something that is not a real good idea.
