I picked one up today

It's a Combat Masterpiece. Model 15-3 serial number K877923. Anybody here tell me old it is? Came with the box. Looks to have lots of holster wear. It's tight and the trigger is nice and smooth on the DA really crisp on the SA

Kev, on your 269xxx, I can only offer that:

241xxx shipped in 1915
290xxx shipped in 1918
357xxx shipped in 1921

Each of these dates comes from a factory letter.
We need to build a database of just simply these numbers and dates.

Thank you old friend!
I'll take a stab at 1916 ish maybe on this one.
It's funny that WW1 didn't affect firearm production like it did in WW2

1978-1979 is as close as I can get on that one.

Model 10-5

can anyone help with this one.

Model 10-5. SN C736xxx. 6" barrel.

This was purchased with the original box and the paperwork, cleaning kit, and wax paper the gun was wrapped in when new.

The blueing is near flawless, no noticeable wear marks or scratches. It has a slight drag line from the cylinder but I cannot tell that it was ever fired. The square butt grips show no wear. This one is super clean. I don't know if it is I titled to the term "mint" but it's really close.

I am looking for manufacture date as well as approximate value. I am going to entertain selling it if I can make a few bucks. Thanks in advance.

The 10-5 looks to be 1963-1965. Sorry my SCSW does not get any closer than that.
C622700-C810532 = 1963-1965

Your gun sounds like a real beauty. Please post some pics in the revolver forum and show her off. JA

I recently wrangled my dad's 28-2. Based on it being a -2 and what's he told me about it, I would say around 1970. Serial is N581xx. Any more info would be greatly appreciated!

The serial number posted shows to have been shipped sometime in 1978-1980. The SCSW is not any closer than that. It does state that most of the 500000 range of serial numbers were model 28s and model 58s.

N500000=1978-1980
N600000=1979-1980
Hope this is of some help. JA

Sorry Mojave I misread the serial number that you posted. Laytonj1 is correct on the ship date. JA

How about a S&W Model 79G 177 cal air pistol?
Ser # appears to be Q011917.

While the SCSW discusses the CO2 pellet pistols it does not give a serial number breakdown.

Can anybody give me a rough time frame on the Smith 27-3??

All I got on the serial is AVC.

The model 27-3 was made from 1982 through 1988. The SCSW does not show an AVC serial prefix. But shows an AVB as being July 1987. So guessing yours should be Late '87 or early '88. JA

Mavracer, That is not quite enough info. What is the full number (including letters) on the butt of the gun? You can put Xs in for the last two digits if you are uncomfortable putting the full serial number on the forum. JA

Smith and wesson model 10-7

I'm trying to find what year a model 10-7 was made.
3D86778. Maybe 1977?
