New Pistol Dies

I received 2 sets of new pistol dies this week. What is the best way to clean them for the first time and then lube them to prevent rust.
Thank You for any information that you can provide ...

I've always just taken them apart and gave them a good wipe down with a paper towel with a little Break Free CLP on it. Then wipe the excess with a clean one.

I take em apart run some Hoppe's #9 thru em wipe them dry-then spray them with Hornady dry lube, let them dry and your good to go.Every now and then when they have been sitting for a while I'll give them a quick wipe down and respray them never have had a problem.

I would always disassemble, hit with brake cleaner and a toothbrush or patches where the brush can't reach, I just throw it in the ultrasonic for a bit now. Use whatever you are normally using for rust prevention. Just make sure you don't leave excess oil on any of the parts so you don't contaminate powder and you'll be fine.

I keep a "soak" in my shop for tool and die cleaning. It consists of mineral spirits, Marvel Mystery Oil, Kroil. I disassemble my dies drop them in to soak and if necessary brush any hard, stuck on grease, and then just wipe. Lightly wiping leaves a light coat of oil preventing rust. Works for me...

I give mine an overnight soak in a mix of OMS and CLP. The dies ship with a rust preventative solution that needs to be removed. After the soak I give them a light coat of CLP for storage between uses.

i remove any plastic peices and o rings, then put in bowl and pour boiling water over them and soak for several minutes, then put in oven at lowest setting for a few minutes til moisture is gone. then breakfree after dry and cooled. be careful to notice that the powder through funnel on top of expander die is plastic if you go this route.
