Starting in 1973, the year of manufacture may be determined by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 2000.

Example: SN 2512345 would have been made in 1975 [2000 - 25 = 1975].

Where the SN begins with 00, 99, 98 or such, subtract from 2100 to get the year.

Example: SN 995460098 would have been made in 2001 [2100-99=2001].

so mine 20063xxx is a 1980 model? I thought it was older. Thank you for the information. I bought it used, and the walnut is faded from sitting in a pickup truck gun rack. Shoots like a dream though.

How does that work for the '94CS 38/357?

My serial number is 4,035,XXX

So if I subtract 40 from 2000 I'd get 1960. I don't think that's right, I got mine new in about the 96-98 time frame.

Not that it matters, but I'm sure my Marlin was made well after 1960.
