Remington No.4 "American Boy Scout" restoration
I was recently given a few old .22s from my grandfather. A few old marlins and a savage as well as a mint unfired 121 field-master pump. I opened a bag to find this American boy scout rifle as it says on the left hand side .22 short rolling block rifle.
After some research I've received mixed reviews in terms of the value of the gun. Its in rough shape and I'd like to restore it to a shooting condition. It's definitely a neat old gun and has the longer wood fore stock as opposed to the shorter ones I see on the models for sale on gun broker. Does anyone have some more information or a good place to start looking for parts? At the moment the only issue I can see with the hammers is that the firing hammer stops just before coming into contact with the breech block. I'm guessing it was left cocked back for a while and the spring stretched a bit. It's my first post so if I could do something better please let me know. The guys on the Volkswagen forums are pretty harsh to new comers. |

Welcome to TFL ! It sounds like you have a worthy restoration project there. The #4S Boy Scout version's fairly rare, and well worth saving. Besides Numrich, here's another #4 RB parts source: http://www.rollingblockparts.com/no-4.html . |

Welcome Espo, hope you don't mind callin' you by your first name.
I recently got an old .22 rifle going again, with a hammer spring substitute from the local hardware store. It was a perfect fit, too. You might try that and maybe get lucky, too. Don't worry about being treated harshly here; it ain't allowed.
