Homemade gas checks?

Now that g/c's are getting absolutely rediculous Im trying to think of an alternative
What if:
when seating the bullet place a piece of tin foil from the wifes cuboard between the bullet and the case....I wonder

Hornady gas checks are not rediculous.

I don't know if that would be thick enough to work, cheap to try, though.
There was once a little device called a Tap-Check that would form gas checks out of aluminum can stock. Beer to bullets. They also made the Tap-Cap to make percussion caps. Don't know what they suggested for priming compound. As you might expect, I don't remember the maker and can't find them in any of several Handloader's Digests.
There is the Venture Soft Gas Check, just a sheet of high-temperature wax to cookie-cut over the case mouth and form a wax wad. Lots of black powder shooters use sheets of beeswax that way. Velocities are low, of course

unless I'm mistaken(happens alot) the hanned line has a aluminum can to gas check tool...not sure but if you can find their web site it should say.

I read about someone using old egg cartons as gas checks, but he recommended using a compressed powder charge to keep the check against the bottom of the bullet.

Unless one is going beyond the 1,800-2,000 fps range...
Good lube will usually obviate the need for gas checks.
With smokeless powder.

It looks like the Hanned web site it gone (someone posted he closed the business). Does anyone have ANYTHING on the gas check maker? Instructions? Photos? Reference articles (maybe in Handloader magazine)? Looking for a cheaper solution than Corbin's gas check maker. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

They suggested using the caps that are used for toy guns for the primer. If I remember correctly, they suggested using the ones made in the US because they had more bang to them. It is in either the current midway usa or midsouthshooterssupply master catalog. If I find time to figure out which one I will post the page number.

Tap-o-cap is on page 59 of midsouth shooter's supply's master catalog. Upper left hand corner. Nothing about gas checks though.

Hanned is out of business.

The folks over on Cast Boolits do a group buy from Gater now and then that gets checks down to a reasonable price and they are about due for another. You could go there and ask about getting in on the next group buy. Catch on that deal is that you need to buy 5k of a caliber. Good part is that Gater is sole source for .41 GC and maybe some other stuff.

You know, I find the greatest ideas and topics here. A homemade gas check sounds like a great idea! What I am thinking is the aluminum can idea and using a gromet punch, If I could only find one with the right diameter... Just imagine, missing your deer (or other target) with the bullet but taking it down with a flaming aluminum disc as a backup! JK, but I am interested as well but don't think I need it. $20 /1000 isn't that bad.
Certainly not worth it (To me.) for all that extra hand labor.
But what do I know, I'm not a fan of gas checks anyway.
