Addicted to Smith and Wesson?

I just realized that I have a Smith and Wesson problem. For many years I had only one handgun, a 686, since I bought it in 1990. Last year I decided to get my carry permit and needed to get something smaller and since I already had a S&W, I started looking there. Once I got my Shield 9mm I thought that a full size 9mm would make a good HD gun and since I already had two S&W's and liked them I'd start there. After buying my M&P Pro 9mm I decided to introduce shooting to my daughter so I needed a 22 and since I already had three S&W's...well, you get the point. Oh, and I just bought an old Model 10 from Bud's because well, I already have 4 S&W's and liked them so much and wanted another 38 revolver to play with.

I have a plan for my next pistol to be a 45 and I've been checking out the Sig P220 but I do sure like the S&W 1911s.

I do have Winchester and Springfield rifles so I not completely weird, right?

So, is it unusual to be loyal to one brand in the firearms world or do I really need to branch out and see what else is out there?

Not at all wierd i love smith and wesson they are a proven name and qaulity company..i myself am the same way but am bery loyal to ruger's if the company makes good quality guns and has been good to you in the past there is nothing wrong with sticking with them

When I open my safe I normally stop counting at 15 and just accept the fact that I've got a problem...

A problem I never intend to cure!

I'd like to be able to open my safe and start at Model 10, then count up the number line one by one, all the way to Model 686...

When your S&W collection retails for more than any car you ever owned, you know the pain.

When you assume debt to buy a S&W, and would rather keep the debt than sell the S&W, you know the pain.

When the only S&W you can think about is the next one, you know the pain.

And finally, when someone asks you "How many do you have?" and you reply with a honest "I don't know", you know the pain.

You are not weird. I was hooked on S&W revolvers and then switched to Ruger and now own both. If I had to pick a manufacturer I am hooked on, it would be Sig. A third of my guns are Sig's. That is due to over 40 years experience with what has jammed on me and not. I find other makes nicer to look at or more ergonomic but when I buy them they eventually fail to perform at some time and then I lose confidence in them and go back to my Sig's. I am sure that some had problems with Sigs too but when since I never did, I have more trust in them than other brands. Confidence in your gun goes a long way in a gun fight. Using a gun that jams occasionally at the range does not inspire that confidence.

The other reason why some like one brand over the other is aesthetics. You simply like the look of the entire gun line. It appeals to you. A lot of people do not like how the Ruger GP100 or LCR looks and yet they are very fine guns.

However, to reinforce Brutus, the 'new' (lock and unpinned barrels) don't appeal to me. I'll admit one exception, the 581 I carried as a Border 'Troll. All the rest are pinned barrel revolvers, except for a 39-2, a 52-2 and a 41.

How many? I've got - uh - several...

Pain, try looking for a perfect 1955 target in 44 special. FOR 30 YEARS before you find one.
Find a Lew Horton 3 inch 44 special at a gun show and give the guy 50 bucks to hold it while you drive home and ask, beg PLEAD to your wife for the money to buy it since all the banks are closed (Sunday).

And yes she gave it to me but I will not divulge what it cost me.

Nice little clear and easy to follow video, MrJog. I've never seen a yoke retention screw like the one shown on the vid. Mine, all older S&Ws are just solid screws with a flat end.

I still own 2 S&W revolvers, a 386 Sc/S and a Model 29. Regretably, I sold my elderly Model 19 (kicks self in ass), but happily sold my much more recent Model 686+. To me, S&W is not what it once was. Every one I've inspected recently has been laughably overpriced and underwhelming. Alas.
