Looking for info on a side by side

I recently inherited a j stevens springfield .20 gauge side by side from my Grandfather. The serial# is 784527. Can anyone date this gun? I think it may be a model 5100 from what I've seen around, but there is no model designation on it. There is a circle on the bottom around the pivot area with what looks like an 'I' and '7' inside the circle.

He also had an Excel single shot .20 gauge crack barrel serial# 89733XF that I cant seem to find anything about....

Any help here would be appricated!

The Stevens is from 1957.

Exel was an importer of Spanish shotguns, but I don't know about Excel.

Guess again PetahW. Stevens dropped the Springfield name in 1948. I've got a Stevens Springfield 20g. and it is a model 5100. Mine has 5100 on the right lower rear of the reciever.

It wasn't a guess.
The Savage/Stevens/Springfield maker's circled date code references available, give "I" as 1957.

And my then-new wife bought me a brand-new Springfield at a department store, for a first Christmas present, just a few months after we were married - in 1965.

Maybe a Savage Stevens but not a J. Stevens.
