What would happen if you shot .45 colt in a 45-70 gun?

Would it chamber/shoot, or is the rim too small? Is the bullet same or different sized? Would the case rupture? Brass expand? etc. Assume normal .45 colt loading. Thanks.

One major KBM!!!

45-70 has a .505 rear diameter, 45 Colt is .480. That is enough to have a catastrophic failure of some kind....

Bullet diameter on .45Colt is .452 whereas on .45-70 is .458. That's .006" difference--leads me to believe the smaller slug would 'rattle' down the bore. Course, that's probably the least of your worries, with the case rupturing, hot gases and unburned powder particles flying everywhere.

try a .454 mag instead of that wimpy .45 colt
least youll get more velocity, wear a welders mask when ya try, thick gloves too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I bet you could try a .444
