Best Investment
I wanted to ask for some advice from the forum. I am looking at buying one of three pistols. I would appreciate advice about which one of the three would be the best investment. They are: Kimber Eclipse Custom II 3" barrel - Sig P220 ST - Sig 1911 RCS Two Tone. All three are .45 cal. and are used and are all priced about the same. I am just curious as to your thoughts and why. Thanks Randy1944

Go with either SIG.

None are good investments. They are very common pistols. Of the three I would take the Sig P220 ST only if it does not have an internal extractor. If is does pass on all of them.

Can't speak on the other two, but I have the Sig RCS and it is absolutely fantastic. I'm blown away every time I shoot it (no pun intended).
My brother has the less expensive version (Sig C3) and it works just as good. I can't imagine anything working any better. |

I would say the Sig P220ST, but I would not classify any of them as an investment pistol.
Not knowing the price or the condition, it is impossible to say whether any are even a good buy. |

I don't think any of them would be an "investment", especially if you are buying new. I bought a used Colt Series 70 1911 with a beautiful blued finish about two years ago for $679. I didn't buy it as an investment, but I bet I could sell it for a bit more than I paid for it. I also have several S&W revolvers that I have picked up used over the last few years that I could sell for more than what I paid for them.
I don't think I could even get my money back on anything I bought new. YMMV.

IMO a 45 caliber should be in a 1911, not some poly pistol.

I don't think the OP meant investment to mean making money on these pistols. I read it as "which one is the best option to put my money on". Both Sigs should satisfy.

Well, I have to give everyone credit - I got just exactly what I asked for. Great and varied information. I am a little surprised that the Kimber got no attention. I already have a Sig P229 Elite Stainless in .40 cal. and I am not surprised that the Sig's got good response's. Thanks again for the information. I know it is hard to answer many of the requests - but know that we newcomers do appreciate the honest answers. Regards, Randy1944

I was wondering if I was the only confused by that "poly pistol" thing. 9mm, have you ever fired a Sig P220? You might change your mind about .45 acp only in 1911s if you did. |

Of the three I'd pick the P220. Although if it was me, I'd go for an Elite model. |

All are poor investments. For investments, think rare, high condition, in demand, out of production, mythic etc. Out of the three, well I don't know any of those guns very well. I'm sure they are nice, quality, etc but you mention "investment" hence my reply.
I would say any of these are good investments:

kimber was ignored because any true 1911 shooter knows kimbers are trash. they sell because they are pretty. they don't shoot nearly as well as anything else in that price point.
i don't like either sig you picked either. the p220 is a single stack, which i find silly in a gun of that size intended for combat use. there are so many great double stack 45's out there now that are set up for combat use. the 1911 is a single stack 45 originally designed for combat, but now mostly still produced for competition shooting. single stack is fine in this case. that being said, sig hasn't been in the 1911 game long enough for my tastes. plenty better choices in that price point.

Saying Kimbers are trash is a little bit of an overstatement in my opinion. I have a 1998 produced Kimber Classic Custom Target that's a great shooter and came with a fantastic trigger pull as well. The only mods I've made are replacing the factory trigger with a short aluminum unit from Cylinder & Slide and replacing grips and grip screws.
Now, if I were in the market for a 1911 a newer Custom Target II might not be my first choice, but I enjoy my current Kimber.

The best investment would be silver bullion. After that, none of the guns you mentioned would make a good investment. They will hold their value, sure, but none will gain much. Try a pinned and recessed smith K or N frame revolver or an old marlin lever if you are looking for value increase. Or even a Siaga 12. Eventually those will be banned.

None of those guns are good investments. Guns in general are not investments. They are tools and you will likely lose money on any modern gun you buy then attempt to sell.

Regarding the OP's question... IMO, I would invest in one of the 1911s. That is, if you're asking into which pistol we would put our money. |

Martowski,
I agree 100%, My EDC is a Kimber Ultra Super carry. I have had about a dozen Kimbers and while I agree some have an issue or two, I have been able to readily over come them. My EDC described above required a few passes with a file on the slide stop when I first bought it. It shoots everything I feed it now. For those that buy a Kimber and have FTF and FTE, I have a patented treatment process that fixes it every time. Shooting 300 break in rounds is too expensive. Disassemble, coat the rail with some old white Colgate toothpaste. Reassemble and cycle the action about 200 times. Clean and Repeat, then oil as per your taste. This has made every Kimber I have ever owned run like a scalded ape humping a singer sewing machine. But this is patented so don't tell anyone else.... OP, if you are OK with the DA/SA trigger pull, the P220 is the most accurate .45 I have ever owned. MY over all favorite is still 1911. I say buy the one without an external extractor. |

Every gun I buy is an "investment"...or so I tell my wife. Seriously though I think either Sig mentioned would hold value better.

ok ok. maybe trash was a little harsh. you just don't get $1800 worth of a gun when you spend $1800 on a kimber. you get about $400 worth of gun and they expect you to pay the rest because they are pretty.

lol. You are only going to draw hate, commenting on kimbers. Even if your statement is true. They seem to have a glock like following.
