Question about guns in the safe

While wiping down some of the guns in the safe, I have some that are loaded and some that are not. Most of the guns do have rounds in the box, case, rug or magazine. All of my guns outside of the safe are loaded.

Question, do you keep the guns in the safe loaded?

Keep in mind that even a fire safe may not keep the internal temperature low enough to prevent ammunition from going off spontaneously during a house fire. Having a gun go off in your safe during a fire probably won't do the contents of the safe much good.

I only have a small safe, but guns inside are unloaded. I do store ammunition in it though. The only gun outside of my safe is my self defense weapon and it is always loaded. Of course every time I take a gun out of the safe I clear it instantly. I feel in case of fire as was mentioned ammo outside of a barrel will do far less damage if it goes off then if it is chambered in a gun.

Re: Question about guns in the safe

My .30-30 has rounds in the tube but nothing chambered, it is kept that way in case something big(ger) comes by the house. My 12 ga has 00 buck in the tube with room for two more shells and slugs in a side saddle but nothing chambered. It is the go-to coyote gun for when they get close. My AR has a full mag and an open bolt and it is my main HD long gun. Everything else is unloaded.
At night my gun safe is unlocked, with the door closed. All I have to do is turn the handle and the door swings open with my AR being the easiest gun to access. Since my safe is in my bedroom I don't worry about not being able to get to it in the event that I need to.... But I keep a pistol on my nightstand just in case

Nothing goes in my safe loaded. It is strictly for storage, not quick access.

I do not keep any loaded guns in my safe and I do not keep any ammo in my safe. I keep my ammo hidden in a different location. I do keep my HD, CC hand gun loaded and in my night stand at night. Also we have no children in the house except for when our grand children come to visit.

Just my P7. Last line of defense if some one tries to make me open it.

Like a lot of people have said here I have 2 outside of the safe that are my home def that are loaded. In the safe they are unloaded but all the mags for each one is loaded just waiting to be put in.

Unloaded in the safe; however, in the safe I keep my AR with a mag inserted and the bolt open, so I only have to drop the bolt to have it ready to go.

In case of fire, all the guns will be ruined anyway. I keep insurance for fire; the safe is for crack addict smash and grabbers.

Due to an accident years ago I have a steadfast rule... All guns unloaded in the safe. No exceptions.
All guns out of the safe are loaded. I live alone and if company comes over, especially with kids, they are concealled or unloaded and put up.

Question, do you keep the guns in the safe loaded?

NO!
All my firearms that are in storage are unloaded and ammo is stored in a location that is close but not next to the firearms.

Any firearm that is not in storage is loaded, with spare ammo very close it it.

Safe is for storage for me as well, so nothing in safe loaded. Ammunition is kept in another safe in another room.

The Firemen tell me that guns in a safe have a lot better chance of surviving a house fire if there's no ammo in the safe with them. There's no ammo in my gun safe and no guns in the ammo safe.

With the value of my ammo stash currently being worth a fair percentage of the value of the firearms themselves (haha) I have been tempted to store the ammo in the safe. I do keep mags loaded with SD/HD ammo in the safe, but not inserted into the firearms themselves.

Back in the older days when I owned alot of guns, nothing loaded went in the safe, and I had a separate smaller safe for ammo. If it was in the safe it was because it was a collectors item or some other gun that I didn't plan on using any time soon. To me, putting a home defense gun in the safe is not wise, as it was an extra unneeded step if things went pear shaped.

I had a magnetic holster screwed into the wood of the headboard, out of sight right by my head where my .357 ruger speed six rode ready. The 12 gauge pump rode a set of 2 plastic hangers that slipped between the mattress and box spring.

I also kept a .357 s&w under the top of my desk in the den, and a smaller 9mm auto on the top shelf of the safe in the den.

I never saw the wisdom of putting a loaded gun so far out of my immediate reach that I could get in trouble and not be able to get out. We were in a rougher neighborhood back then. (well, we were in the middle class suburbs right next to the ghetto, so we were often the first target for scumbags not wanting to go too far from home to commit a felony)

I keep a revolver loaded for this very same reason.

I prefer that my firearms be loaded at all times.

I have no small children at home.
