The Best Revolver?

That's easy! The S&W Model 19 in my top choice.

S&W 44 mags are up there too

Like one of these

Top - S&W model 44 magnum (pre 29) S prefix 4 screw 6.5 in, 1958 production
Bottom - S&W 29-2 6 in factory nickel, 1979 production

I almost posted this pic first but I think the 357 is more practical, as far as the best revolver. These are up there though.

Ruger Redhawk, stainless, 5.5" barrel, .44 magnum.

Very smooth DA, pretty good SA, good grip/hand fit from the factory, strong as an anvil, accurate, not overly heavy for belt carry. Stainless finish for minimal maintenance. Will handle anything from plinking to deep woods elk hunting, and everything in-between.

A good part of the left and right brain says pre-lock Smith K, more specifically 65LS (Lady Smith)--uniquely 3" fixed sight, fully shrouded, satin stainless. Moniker aside (and quickly forgotten anyway), it comes as close to the complete revolver--for my purposes.
But...
The final nod on paper probably goes to a 3" Pre-lock 686 Plus. Seven shots and fully 125 grain "certified." It's what I'd choose for the "stranded on an island in a Komodo-probable latitude (or anywhere south of the 40th parallel...or the wrong side of town) with definite-but-unspecified dangers and no other provisions" revolver.

Honorable mention:
My "emotional" favorite--Ruger .44 Special New Vaquero Sheriff (3.75" stainless) with SBH/Montado hammer transplant comes darn close to perfection. Perfect size and balance, and a big bore to boot.

All of the guns above just happen to be stainless, which I don't even prefer, but there's no denying the finish for all 'round duty.

OK, I'll play along and offer reasons for my variance from the "S&W fan club". My vote is for the Monson made Dan Wesson in the caliber of your choosing. Get it in the "pistol pak" and you have a choice of barrel length to fit your occassion. Versatile? Yep, with the 2", 4", 6", or 8" barrels that come with the pistol pak, choose your barrel length. Accurate? Yep, check out what the accuracy shooters/record holders use. Strong? Yep, every bit as strong as the Rugers (Blackhawk or Redhawk). Cost? About the same or less than any of the S&Ws or Rugers. Used cost? Hard to tell, very few get re-sold.

Yeah, I'd say the Dan Wesson takes it by a landslide.

I would vote for the Python. Certainly the most attractive, beautifully finished and very accurate.

I have never shot one, but I handled a Freedom Arms premier grade(can't remember the model, but it was chambered in 454 Casull) at a gun show last year. Beautiful fit and finish and there was just something about it(well, pretty much everything) that screamed quality. Way out of my price range, so that is on my "when I grow up" list. I love Rugers and Smiths, but this felt like it was a big step above them. So, it gets my vote, even though it is a silly question.

The U.S.F.A's get my heart beat racing, and some of the top tier custom single actions from guys like Alan Harton, Hamilton Bowen, and David Clements etc. REALLY do it for me.

Love my Python too, but those high end single actions really are something. Maybe someday!

The Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum. 1936. I think it doesn't get alot better than an N frame Smith. But, for carry, nothing beats a K frame.

Colt Patterson. Although some revolving pistols had been made before the Patterson, none were practical enough to really catch on. The Patterson proved that the idea was sound, and pointed the way for all the rest.

I like my M-17 Smith, but I wouldn't mind owning that lovely shorty M-27 directly above.

Best revolver means different things to different people. I have many S&W and Rugers. These are my favorites.

1. Best carry and best handling revolver. My model 19 and model 66.
2. Best revolver for shooting 357 magnums. My GP100.
3. My best all around revolver for everything. My Ruger Blackhawk 4 5/8 357/9mm. With this revolver I have all the bases covered.

Regards,
Howard

Speaking as an owner of multiple Pythons, Korths, and Registered Magnums, the best revolver ever made is the Manurhin MR73.

I have to go with a no-dash S&W 67, the one with the tapered barrel. I can't miss with that thing. It's a pure joy to shoot. Now, remember, that's my idea of "best," not everyones.
